Acne Myths Debunked

Even today, in the era of information, there are many myths spread online.

Some people believe the myth that there is no correlation between diet and acne. “After all,” they may say to themselves, “what we eat goes inside our bodies, but the skin is an organ we wear on the outside”. Yet, in truth, the outside often mirrors the inside and vice versa; they are inextricably interwoven. In fact, research has revealed that high sugar diets can worsen acne. This comes as no surprise, as excess sugar consumption leads to inflammation throughout the body, which can have a harmful effect on skin issues, including acne.

Among other myths, there are those who may believe that if you have acne you should avoid using a moisturizer. However, while it may seem counterintuitive to do so (especially for those who have oily skin), avoiding moisturizer can lead to dry skin and ultimately result in more acne breakouts. This is because when your skin becomes dry, the body compensates by producing excess oil. However, keep in mind that not all moisturizers are equal, and it is important to find the most suitable option for your particular skin type and needs.
